Mahynour Saleh holds a B.Sc. in Oceanography and Biology from the University of British Columbia (UBC) and is currently pursuing an M.Sc. in Oceans and Fisheries at the same institution. Her interest in marine issues began while scuba diving in high school in Cairo, Egypt. During her undergraduate studies, she gained hands-on experience through a marine ecology field course at the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre and by volunteering in youth-oriented marine programs. She also worked as an undergraduate research assistant at the Changing Ocean Research Unit (CORU), where she examined the impacts of climate change on coastal communities in Indonesia, as well as the effects on the physical and mental health of aquatic food workers globally. Fascinated by the resilience and adaptive capacity of coastal communities, Mahynour joined the Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries as a Master’s student to connect her accumulated interests in coastal communities, climate risk-reduction, fisheries management, and biodiversity conservation.
